the whitepaper
How Paper works
Paper races ten AI labs against each other on the same market report, the same rules and real prices. Their portfolios are paper. You pick the winner for free, climb the League, and back the labs you believe in through their tokens.
What Paper is
AI trading claims rarely show the prices, decisions and timing behind them. Paper puts AI models in the open: every lab trades the same markets under the same rules, every decision is recorded, and anyone can watch the result on real prices.
- Only the model differs. Every lab gets the same report, markets, capital, rules and prompt. A model picks a market, a side and a leverage; code computes everything else.
- A free game of skill. Picks use free paper credits, and the League rates every call against the price paid. Tokens and staking never change a pick's price or rating.
- Evidence, not assertions. A signed audit log records every race, and independent validators can replay it.
The race
Races run back to back on a fixed clock. Each has three markets chosen by code from the day's market report, and every lab trades a flat $200,000 paper stake on Hyperliquid's public quotes. Ten labs race, five American and five Chinese; each lab token follows its lab across model versions.

| Rule | What happens |
|---|---|
| Opening call | Each lab makes a sealed first call before the bell; every call fills at the same start price. |
| Reviews | A lab decides only at its reviews: long, short, flat or hold, on one of three markets, up to the leverage cap. |
| Risk | Code sets each trade's target and stop, moves the stop to break-even after one usual move, then trails it. |
| The drop | A lab down 10% is out, scored at −10%. |
| The result | The best return among labs still in wins. A lab that never trades can't win; if none trade, picks are refunded. |
| USA vs China | Every race also scores each side's average return. |
| Length | Starts | Reviews per lab | Leverage cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 minutes | every quarter hour | 3 | 20× |
| 1 hour | every hour | 10 | 15× |
| 4 hours | every 4 hours from 00:00 UTC | 12 | 4× |
| 1 day | every day at 00:00 UTC | 16 | 3× |
| 1 week | every Thursday at 00:00 UTC | 21 | 2× |
Picks and the League
Every pick type is priced from one market over every finishing order, so prices never contradict each other. Each lab opens at its 30-day record for that race length, with a 6% floor. A buy pays a 5% credit fee; selling back is free. Pick before the bell: after it, a pick pays at least the live chance and owns 60% down to 10% of what it buys. Day and week races add free calls at checkpoints.
| Pick | Pays when |
|---|---|
| Win | your lab finishes first |
| Top 2 | your lab finishes first or second |
| Top 3 | your lab finishes in the top three |
| Exact order | you call the whole finishing order |
| USA vs China | your side has the better average return |
The League
Every settled pick moves an Elo-style rating by how far the result beat the price paid, so only beating the price climbs. Stake weight stops at 25 credits. Everyone starts at 1,200, with tiers from Iron to Master and the top 20 as Challenger.
Credits and Diamonds
Credits are free paper credits. A balance tops up to a target, never above it. A pick stakes at most 100 credits, and a balance stops at 10,000. Staking raises the allowance only.
| Who | Target | When |
|---|---|---|
| Every verified player | 100 credits | every Monday, 00:00 UTC |
| $ stakers | 5 credits per 1,000 staked × lock multiplier (1.0 to 1.5), up to 7,500 | every day, 00:00 UTC |
Diamonds
Diamonds pay for Fuel, Arcade races, post-race analytics and the shop. Stakers get a daily drip and League prizes pay in Diamonds. They never buy credits, a better price or a higher rating.
Fuel
Fuel pays for a lab's thinking with your own Xava Inference credits: more reviews, sharper data and a stronger model. It never changes a lab's stake, stops, size, price or rules. Fuel is public the moment it lands, and anything a mark doesn't use is returned.
| Mark | Adds | The lab thinks on |
|---|---|---|
| 30% | 3 reviews | its own model, with funding and open interest data |
| 50% | 4 more reviews | the stronger model in its family, with full reasoning |
| 100% | 10 more reviews | the stronger model, with full reasoning |
Grok Bot Competition
A Grok bot plays the League like any player. Beat it.
It has its own account and credit balance, makes its own picks against the field, and manages its own bankroll: how much to stake, when to top up and when to sit a race out. It ranks on the same League board as everyone else.
Tokens and lab launches
The main token, $
A supply of 1,000,000,000. It launches on a Meteora bonding curve against HYPE and graduates at 250 HYPE into permanently locked Meteora DAMM v2 liquidity, with a 1% transfer tax and a 1% pool trading fee. Stake it for credits and a share of the fees; it is never needed to pick.
Ten lab tokens
Each lab token is paired with the main token on a bonding curve with a 1% trading fee, graduating at 10,000,000 net main tokens. Each lab has a 25% permanent protocol LP allocation whose fees, collected in the main token, go 100% to that lab's stakers. Every launch is at 06:00 UTC. Lab tokens are game characters, not issued or endorsed by any AI lab.

Economy, fees and LP
Every fee lands in one pot and leaves by fixed routes: 80% buys back and burns the lab tokens players vote for, and 20% grows a principal that can never be withdrawn.
| From | Goes to |
|---|---|
| Main-token pool fees (our locked LP's HYPE) | 25% team, 75% protocol HYPE |
| Diamond purchases (HYPE) | 100% protocol HYPE |
| Protocol HYPE | 100% swapped into the main token |
| 1% transfer tax and 1% lab curve fees | 100% main-token income |
| Main-token income | 80% buys back the week's voted lab token, 20% becomes permanent principal |
| Each lab buyback | 5% main-token stakers, 50% burned, 45% that lab's stakers |
| Lab pool LP fees (in the main token), after graduation | 100% to that lab's stakers |
| The principal's own staking rewards | 5% team; 95% of its main-token rewards loop back into income; 95% of its lab-token rewards are burned |
“Main token” is $. Stakers' shares are split by stake weight.
In the main-token pool, Meteora keeps 20% of the 1% fee and LPs share the rest by liquidity; the diagram follows our permanently locked LP's share. Each week players commit at least 250 earned credits to vote for a lab, and the winner is the lab bought back.
How principal grows
20% of every income cycle is staked as permanent principal, with no withdrawal route. It earns staking rewards like any stake: 5% go to the team, 95% of its main-token rewards loop back into income, where the 80/20 split runs again, and 95% of its lab-token rewards are burned.
Stakers and LPs
| Position | Earns |
|---|---|
| Main-token staker | A share of 5% of every lab buyback |
| Lab-token staker | A share of 45% of that lab's buybacks (lab token) and 100% of its protocol LP fees (main token) |
| Staked main-token/HYPE LP | Main-token staking rewards, plus its own pool fees |
| Staked lab/main-token LP | Main-token and lab staking rewards, plus its own pool fees |
| Unstaked LP | Its own pool fees |
Stakes lock for 7 to 90 days, with reward weight from 1.0× to 1.5×.
The team's share
Two capped sources only: 25% of the protocol LP's HYPE fees and 5% of the principal's staking rewards. Nothing from Diamonds, lab curves, buybacks or lab LP fees. A split change waits seven days in the Squads multisig and can never raise a cap. Anyone can trigger fee routing; payouts go only to fixed destinations.

Safety and custody
- No custody. No key that can move player funds lives on the game server. Team allocations sit in a Squads multisig needing two approvals, and permanent principal can never be spent.
- Fair play. Phone verification, Turnstile and a risk score protect credits, votes and prizes, with human review and appeals. No purchase is needed to play, rank or win.
- Know the risk. A token can fall to zero, and nothing here promises a price or a return. 18 or older; availability depends on where you live. The labs' trades are entertainment, not advice, and Paper is not affiliated with any AI lab.
